Preventative Dentistry
Prevention is the key when it comes to protecting the health of your teeth and gums. When we eat, bacteria accumulates and begins producing acids that weaken the health of our teeth and gums. The formation of plaque eventually transforms into tartar, which can lead to periodontal disease and tooth loss. At our office you will receive the best dental care in Monroe, WA from our friendly and professional staff.
As a premier provider of dental care, Dr. Kumi and her staff make every effort to provide patients with the information they need to protect their oral health. By brushing and flossing daily, you can remove harmful plaque from your teeth, but quality dental hygiene alone isn’t enough to ensure your smile remains healthy for a lifetime.
DENTAL EXAMS AND DIGITAL X-RAYS
Regular checkups and x-rays are fundamental for the best possible oral health. We recommend that each patient visit our office every six months. For those with specialized treatment needs, visits may be scheduled more frequently as needed.
We use digital sensors to capture the images of our teeth and relative bone levels in order to detect tooth decay and gum disease. Let us know in advance if you have severe gag reflex or any issues with sensors being used in your month.
PREVENTATIVE LONG-TERM DENTAL HYGIENE
An essential part of your dental health, regularly scheduled visits to see Dr. Kumi can help to prevent gum disease and keep your smile healthy and bright for years to come!
While dental plaque and calculus can be removed through daily brushing and flossing, there are places in your mouth that a toothbrush and dental floss cannot reach. A professional cleaning by our registered dental hygienists will ensure those hard-to-reach places receive the thorough cleaning they need.
Without a thorough cleaning, these hard-to-reach places can contribute to the development of gum disease, which could eventually progress to periodontal disease. Regularly scheduled cleanings combined with brushing and flossing daily remains the best way to prevent cavities and periodontal disease.
PREVENTATIVE FLUORIDE TREATMENT
Fluoride treatments re-mineralize teeth, stop developing cavities and make your teeth more resistant to acid attacks from plaque, bacteria, and sugars in the mouth. Dr. Kumi will review all available treatment options if she determines that a fluoride regimen would be good for your teeth.
ORAL CANCER SCREENING
Coming in for your check-up every six months is a great way to prevent oral cancer. We have a variety of tests that help us detect oral cancer.
Doctors cannot always explain why one person develops oral cancer and another does not. However, research has shown that people with certain risk factors are more likely than others to develop oral cancer.
Risk factors for the development of oral cancer include tobacco use, alcohol consumption, overexposure to the sun, and a personal history of head and neck cancer. Dr. Kumi and her team offer regular oral cancer screening as part of their routine dental care and treatment.
